Sotenbori, 1988. Tojo's own Dojima family is looking out to expand to Kansai. Kiryu and Nishiki are on a mission to gather intel on the mighty Omi alliance. Determined to not let the patriarch down, they infiltrate the night club scene in Sotenbori.
They do not expect to stumble into an Omi gambling den. And, most of all, Kiryu does not expect to fight an Omi patriarch for a date with a mean vixen with an eye patch.

“Y’know, I thought we had a lot of trainin’ to do when ya got outta prison last year… Looks like this time around we’re really gonna be startin’ from scratch.”
There are multiple assumptions in that statement Kiryu wants clarification on, but he startles when he hears one thing specifically.
“What do you mean ‘last year?’” Kiryu gapes. Majima fidgets, uncharacteristically awkward. He looks up at the ceiling and crosses his arms, letting his shoulders droop heavily. The image of Majima at a loss for words is completely uncharted territory; it takes Kiryu a moment to realize that is what he’s witnessing, and he feels the hairs on the back of his neck tingle as he realizes it must be bad. “Nii-san, how… How long was I down there?”
“Ten months in the hole. Been here recoverin’ for three weeks.”
Kiryu disappears after fighting Majima at Shangri-La. When he's rescued, he's in for a long recovery, and there's a lot he needs to catch up on. Majima refuses to let him do it alone.

Kiryu Kazuma was alive.
And how was that for a kick in the dick? He wouldn’t even come out for drinks, not even for old time’s sake. Not even after Majima basically begged.

Summary
Majima turned his gaze on the only man left standing in the middle of it all, fist clutched around what he recognised as the left pedal of his poor, dismembered bike. There wasn’t a scratch on him. He wore a crisp, double-breasted white suit, paired with maybe one of the ugliest patterned shirts Majima had ever seen; he was young — Majima guessed early twenties — but his face wore a scowl that seemed years beyond his boyish features. Strong, sharp nose, and a better jawline than any of his sorry opponents put together. And, of course, the hottest thing of all — he could clearly hold his own in a fight.
“Man, ya could’ve grabbed any other damn bike off the street, huh?”
Majima crossed his arms in a show of annoyance, but his tone held no malice. To be totally fair, he had destroyed his own share of innocently parked bicycles during beat-downs, so he figured this evened things out a little. Karmic justice, or whatever. And at least God had wrapped it all up in a pretty face this time.

It was supposed to be a day trip. Just a short one that Kiryu could handle, that he felt good about being able to do now that he was starting to look and feel like his old self again. He’d drive out to the fishing shack up north, help Majima pack up a few forgotten belongings, load the truck, and head back to civilization.Neither of them were prepared for a surprise snowstorm to hit and force them to shelter in the shack until it passed. But at least Majima had some ideas for how to keep warm.

"Not a clue." He replied. He wracked his brain for a few intense moments and sighed hard in exasperation. His heart hurt with that same distant hope from Osaka long ago. Majima thought he would never have to feel that again. "But it's gotta mean somethin', yeah?! Kiryu-chan wouldn't've gone to all the trouble to leave that screwy clue if he didn't want me to find it!"
"Kiryu wasn't a man who did anything needlessly." Saejima agreed he turned his head to look at his brother. "But why? Does he want you to go to Sado? If so, what's there?"
"I don't know. But I'm gonna find out."
