Post in r/Ghosts: I think my boyfriends apartment is haunted, help?

Hi, all. Long time lurker, first time poster here, so excuse any incorrect formatting — also, feel free to redirect me to a more appropriate sub if this isn’t the right place to post about this. But I’m starting to get a little… freaked out, and I just wanted some advice. And sorry if I make any spelling mistakes, I’m typing this on my phone whilst sitting on the floor of the closet.
So, I (M34) have a boyfriend (M36), who I’m gonna call Percy for the time being. Not his real name but I’m worried he’ll find this post and think I’ve gone crazy. Long story short, I’m convinced his apartment is haunted. It’s so many little things, but tonight something I can’t explain happened.
I could make excuses for things going missing, or moving spots. I chalked it up to Percy shifting things around, or myself and just forgetting. Like mugs moving cabinets, or suddenly being washed. Or the tap turning itself on, maybe it’s just janky plumbing. Sometimes the TV flickers between channels when neither of us are holding the remote. There’s days when I’m so sure I locked the back door, and when I go to unlock it in the morning it’s open. The kettle boils itself, the cushions have dents in them even when I’ve fluffed them and no one has sat on the sofa. The weirdest part is Percy doesn’t seem to notice at all? Like the channels changing on their own, he doesn’t even notice. He just smiles when it finally settles and asks if I’m okay watching this?
I tried my best to ignore it all, figuring I just needed to sleep more (work has been kind of crazy), or I was seeing things and needed to get my prescription checked and my eyes retested. But then, before we went to bed, I took the picture attached to the post and I just. I can’t ignore it anymore. I need someone to tell me I’m not losing my mind. Like what is that thing??? I’ve blocked my boyfriends face out, but I was standing behind him in the bathroom, taking just. A casual photo of him brushing his teeth in the mirror. I just thought it was a cute, domestic moment to capture. But later on after he fell asleep, I properly looked at it and zoomed in and I must be going insane because. That’s a person, right????
With a mustache and everything, poking its head around the doorway??? Its eyes look deranged, its teeth are SHARP. ITS SMILING???? I’m freaking out, like a lot. I love Percy, I don’t know how to bring this up. Can someone just tell me if there’s a figure in the reflection or not??? In my eyes he’s got a green tint, a little transparent, really sunken features, and maybe the most horrifying smile I’ve ever seen.
What’s making it worse is he looks SO much like Percy in the face. A little different, a little… scarier I guess. Again I’m currently sitting inside the closet in Percy’s apartment, freaked out of my mind. Just looking for any sort of validation or advice. What is this thing??? Could it be a trick in the lighting??? Is it a ghost???

Hey, reddit. Got such a huge response on my last post, thanks all the comments for your advice. To the few who accused me of using AI go fuck yourselves, I’m a poet by profession and I’d rather die than use a robot. If I was going to fake a post I’d use photoshop like a real man. That being said, I did not use photoshop and i’m still freaking out. Things got weirder.
I (M34) was going to talk to Percy (M36) about the photo because it was driving me insane but I didn’t know how to bring it up. I do this really “Cringe” thing where I give myself mirror pep talks? It helps me, I don’t know. I’m standing in the bathroom, looking in the mirror telling myself that I can do this. I was going to show Percy the post and the photo and say I think he has ghosts. And then I look over to the left. And there’s a reflection in the mirror. Very very transparent. I don’t have a photo, I tried to take one and he didn’t show up in the picture. So, sorry if this is disappointing but here’s a very panicked artists rendition attached below. I’ll explain what I saw.
It’s freaking me out how both ghosts have looked like Percy? This one was dressed like a prince?? Does royalty come back to haunt apartments in Florida??? I’m sorry if you guys don’t believe this I’m just trying to understand. But this prince ghost apparition hallucination thing was standing just over my shoulder. Just. Looking at me. It was smiling and had it’s hand over it’s mouth and it freaked me out. It looked happy almost??? Dreamy??? I don’t even know. Not as scary as the last ghost. When I turned around it was gone. But I saw it, I know I did. Any reason why one appears in photos and one doesn’t??? Is it possible for more than one ghost to haunt the same place?? Why do they have a similar face to my boyfriend, with only slightly different features??? I’m so confused, and I’m freaked out.
Also a jar of jam I bought was half empty five minutes after I put it in the cupboard, and Percy hadn’t been in the kitchen since I got in. I don’t know if that means anything. But it feels like EVERYTHING means something at the moment. Help!!!

Theres that one post of a guy thinking he had an ant infestation only to find out he had carbon monoxide poisoning. this could be that. If youre seeing ‘ghosts’ with your boyfriends face. Just saying. Test those alarms. Carbon monoxide poisoning kills.

u/2Sentences_BadComedy: great artists rendition. I saw your original post and agree that it definitely looks like a ghost, or something paranormal. If there’s multiple ghosts using the same face, it could be your brain assigning them faces? Ghosts are something we don’t really understand, and your brain might be trying to make sense of the situation. Like, it’s your boyfriends apartment, it would make sense to see your boyfriend there. Food for thought.

Read linked posts for context. I don’t have time for this I’m 100% going insane.
I haven’t explained anything to Percy yet, but I did demand he get the carbon monoxide alarms tested and he did so without asking many questions. Bless his heart, he’s a very anxious man so once I brought it up he immediately agreed, suddenly panicked about being poisoned. The alarms are working fine, no carbon monoxide here. Thank you to the commenter who suggested checking the alarms though!
Which means I still don’t know what’s happening. I kind of wish it was hallucinations.
This brings me on to the update. I don’t know if Percy has one or two or three or four ghosts anymore. There could be dozens, I could be delusional. Yesterday I stayed the night, and after not really seeing anything strange all day, I started to settle down. Percy and I were on the couch, and he put a film on and left the remote on the coffee table. It was ON the table. Here’s a photo attached as proof. You can see the pizza box on his lap, my feet up on the table, the movie in the background, and the remote, on the coffee table. No one touched it. Then after the film ended, Percy asked if I wanted to watch anything else. I said I didn’t mind, and he started to think. AND THE CHANNELS STARTED CHANGING ON THEIR OWN.
Second attachment is a video of it happening. You can see the remote still on the table, but the channels are changing. You can hear Percy once it stops asking if this documentary is okay, and then laughing asking why I’m filming the TV. He doesn’t own any other TV remotes to my knowledge. I made an excuse to get out of the room and calm down, and I opened the cupboard to make jam and toast to settle my stomach. The jam was empty. This is a NEW jar. Third attached image is the empty jar next to the receipt. Bought two days ago. Now empty. I know I sound crazy but putting this together with the first post???? I don’t know what to do!!!! I’m at the point where I’m considering getting sage or holy water or something.
It doesn’t fucking stop there though. Cause Im standing holding this empty fuckass jar and then i feel this. Weight. On my shoulder. Warm and solid and so real. And it feels like I’m being hugged?? And then it starts PATTING MY SHOULDER. LIKE A DAD CALMING SOMEONE DOWN. I’m panicking so much, I’m so freaked out.
I stayed the night but I couldn’t relax. I dont know how Percy is so chill but Im losing it here. What do I do???
I don’t want to go over to his anymore because I feel so twitchy and anxious, but at the same time I can’t help being morbidly curious. And I really do love him. What do i do about these ghosts????

u/themeatworm: hey op, been following this since your first post. i have some theories. the apartment is 100% haunted. i think your brain is giving the ghosts the same face as percy to make sense of it. OR, the first ghost, the one in the photo, IS percy from a past life. the rest aren’t. since you saw one with his face, your brain is assuming all the ghosts have his face.
also, its possible percy doesnt notice all this weirdness cause hes lived there for so long? it all seems normal to him. are you 100% sure he doesnt own any other tv remotes? ghosts tend to feel cold when they pass through people, so its unusual for this one to be warm. could be a good sign though, warmth generally means ‘good.’ sounds like these arent malicious apparitions, maybe just curious ones?
glad to hear the carbon monoxide alarms are fine. even if they were fucked up, it wouldnt explain the first post though.

I’m thinking about collecting more evidence and taking it to my bf all at once? Either that or I let it bubble up until I have a breakdown over it LOL.

Well, I’m here for the fourth time because nothing makes sense. I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m seriously considering going to a therapist at this point, I really do feel crazy. A bit of a shorter update on my boyfriend, Percy (M36) and his haunted apartment. For one, I got another photo of the ghost from the first post??
I took this picture in the living room, again blocked out Percy’s face for privacy. But look through to the kitchen and I think this an even clearer image than the bathroom one. I thought maybe it would only appear in reflections, but LOOK AT IT. I’m scared. I’m genuinely scared to be here anymore. The goddamn eyes, the sharp smile. What is it even dressed as??? Some sort of Stuart era Duke??? There’s EYES on the sleeves. This doesn’t feel like a normal ghost anymore. Is it some sort of fucking demon??? Does anyone know what to do?? Any paranormal experts have advice on how to get rid of DEMONS????
Another smaller update that isn’t as extreme. This could just be me being paranoid, or anxious or whatever. But I keep getting this distinct feeling I’m being watched. I’ll be standing at the front door, waiting for Percy to let me in, and it really feels like someone is staring at me, watching. The blinks in the front will move and whilst Percy is talking to me, I swear to god, from the corner of my eye, I see these. Dark, sad eyes through the blinds, just watching. There’s almost like. A purple shine to it. I don’t know if this description makes any sense. I feel like I’m losing it a bit now. Maybe the late nights up writing are getting to me?
EDIT: im dont think i can do this anymore. I just looked at the photo attached to the post again and i swear to fucking god that demon ghost thign is holding a mace. I swearto god thats what that is. I dont think im safe here anymore. I cant leave im so worried for Percy’s safety now. What the fuck do i do

u/Down_Under_Priest: Hello, I don’t tend to comment on these sorts of posts very much, but this is the first thing I’ve seen to send a shiver down my spine. If this is an ARG, then I commend you for being so convincing. Might I suggest contacting a local church for an exorcism? You can try one yourself with a salt circle and some basic Bible verses.

u/UnfriendlyUnlocalTarantulaMan: First of all OP, happy to hear about your lack of carbon monoxide poisoning. I generally come to these subs with a healthy dose of skepticism, but it sounds like you yourself weren’t really inclined towards the paranormal before this either. I think you should take a couple days away from your bf’s apartment, try to get some sleep, take care of yourself, and then go back and see if you’re still feeling the same. Could be psychological.
That being said, I don’t know how to explain the figure in the back of the photos. Real spooky stuff, please please keep us updated so we know you’re safe.

First of all, im a little scared by how much this post is blowing up. Thanks for all the comments. Also received a few dms from helpful folks giving advice about what to do, how to perform an exorcism etc. Also a few of people telling me to die so thanks internet your comments are noted.
I have come to the conclusion that the house is haunted. I can’t think of anything else. I spent a few days at home, calmed down, went back to see Percy, and then I heard it. Hissing. Something was muttering to itself and hissing. Like it had a lisp. Can ghosts have lisps?? I mean people can have lisps, so it makes sense to have one in death right??
I was sitting in Percy’s bedroom as he made dinner, just reading, and everything seemed normal. Didn’t feel like anyone was watching me, no strange apparitions in the mirror or on the camera. No strange warmth, no random things moving. Everything was normal. I thought it was over, that the few days rest had fixed everything. And thats when I heard it. This… voice??? From the corner, fading in and out like someone was muttering to themselves whilst pacing around??? I dont fully remember everything it said, but I’ll type it below.
“Look who came back… Was beginning to worry you’d left forever. At leasssst you take care of yourself. Could encourage [Percy] to do the same…” [big silent pause] “We misssssed you.”
I got up and BOLTED out of the room. I’m hearing things now. This can’t be in my head, right??? I mean i have photos!!!!! The guy in the mirror, the eyes in the window, the creep in the photos. Then the mugs moving, the tap turning itself on, the channels changing. The weird warmth, the ghost hugs. And now. A voice. Like an actual hissing lisp voice. I have to bring this up to Percy now, even if he explains it all away, I need answers and I need to know whats going on. Maybe he’ll think im insane and break up with me , i dnt know. I love that man so much, but im SCARED.
A minor update on the watching eyes. Ive seen them now. As I just mentioned. In the window. Earlier today. Was in the living room planning on how to tell Percy all of this, and i looked out the window and there they were. Sunken, tired looking eyes, massive eyebags, staring back at me. They looked like they were printed onto clear plastic>?? Not quitethere but. Definitely something. What do i do how do i bring this up. I never used to believe in ghosts but ive never been so convinced in my life. Im about ready to whip out the ouija board at this point. Got a priest on speed dial.
TL;DR. Theres ghosts here. What do I do?

u/Samurai129436854: Something similar happened to a buddy of mine once. Seeing reflections, feeling watched, having things move, hearing voices. He never had a clear photo like you do, but he doused the place in holy water and burned sage and the problems went away.

Off the bat, this update is definitely going to disappoint some people.
I had a chat with Percy, who now knows about these posts and I can refer to by his actual name — Thomas. As it turns out, the strange goings on have NOT been the work of ghosts. Honestly it’s something so much weirder that I can’t even begin to explain. I’ll be taking some time away from Reddit in the future. “Percy” and I are doing fine. And a huge thank you to everyone who offered support and advice, wish you all the best in your paranormal endeavors.

u/bowtiesArecool: My theory is the figures OP saw are actually aspects of his boyfriends personality, affecting the world around them in small, subtle ways. My best friend swore this happened to him and his girlfriend a few years ago. Sounds just like that. The paranormal is one thing, but humans are exceptionally strange too. You’d be shocked at how the spirit can impact the world.
