They drop Bob off at his hometown before the trial, at his request. Once they leave him, he realizes he isn’t sure what track his life is on from here.

He instinctively reaches up to the part where he’s hurting, and he’s already done this before, he feels the slight slickness of blood from a small open wound. The open wound he already got from getting hit with a stone. It’s the same open wound, it’s the same pavement, the same light around him, the same time.
