Summary
It’s 2003. While investigating a suspicious arson case, Special Agent Peter Strahm gets himself entangled in… something with local homicide Detective Mark Hoffman. Unbeknownst to him, Hoffman is still grappling with his tragic loss, and is forced to relive it yet again - when his sister’s murderer appeals his sentence.
What would Hoffman do, if the person who took his sister’s life were released?
And how would that affect Strahm who, against his better judgment, finds himself increasingly drawn into the detective’s life?

Summary
Hoffman couldn't arrive soon enough. Strahm cut the drinking and even made himself coffee, because contrary to his first instinct - he actually wanted to be sober-ish for his ‘date’. If he was going to fuck MPD's finest (in an actual bed, mind you), then he wanted to be mentally present for that. To make the most of it, and get it out of his system once and for all.
Oh yeah, because that worked so well the first time around…

“Yeah, apparently it is…” Daniel leaned back on the counter to intrude Mark’s view, making sure he’d catch his brow raised in suspicion, “Tracy just called to thank me for the flowers.”

When he inquired about his confusing and ever shifting schedule, Hoffman invited him to discuss the case over a drink if he wasn’t occupied that evening. He sure as hell wasn’t now.
