Because how could they be certain of anything. They couldn't. For all they knew, they'd been born in that forest. For all they knew, they weren't even human. Yes, they'd learned to live with and accept their ignorance but at times it became so terribly frustrating—
"Haah…"
A quiet sigh, barely audible, was released behind them. A sound Dante was so keenly familiar with that they noticed it immediately, jolting them out of their spiraling thoughts. Their grip on their arms loosening as they turned around just enough to confirm that they hadn't just imagined the sound as they'd done in the past, and red eyes met their gaze.
