“I’ll explain everything. Most of it when I feed. I won’t hurt you.”
“I know.” His voice was low and he lifted his arm to start to roll up his sleeve.
“I’m sorry Carm, but this shit isn’t like it is in the movies. I need the carotid artery on your throat.” She jumps on him, pressing her lithe and strong body against his. This was fucked up. Was she lying when she couldn’t reach the veal fat? Was she hiding how quickly her hand healed when she cut it in the sink? When she fell through the wall, Marcus said she was strong, but Carmy assumed it was because their walls were held together with paper mache and Elmer’s glue.
“Does Marcus know?”
“Shh ok. Just focus on me. Now move your head a little to the right.” She brushes his curls back and unbuttons the top half of his whites with practiced speed. She cradles his head in one hand, scratches the nape of his scalp with her stiletto pointed talons that had grown out of her normally neatly cropped fingernails.
He groans, but not out of agony. Out of desire, because he realizes, slower than the rest of his body, that he wanted this. He wanted her to drink from him. What the fuck was this Twilight?

She smiles into the warm skin under his neck at the sound of her favorite nickname. It was like waking up to a piece of heaven now that he was back in her life everyday.
“Yes Carm?”
“I wanna take you on a honeymoon.”
“Say more.” She nestles into him deeper as he squeezes her arms for courage.
“When we got married, it was so quick and then we went back to being mom, dad, and chefs before we could even really blink. I think that’s part of the reason why we ended up here. We just didn’t get enough time to celebrate us, and before we open up the new spot, I think we should go on a honeymoon.”Carmy plans a late honeymoon and they leave with a souvenir.

“Ok so why are you here?” She fills the silence as she enjoys her own food after she knows Carmy approves.
“Um, I was working on something at the apartment and forgot my knife. Didn’t think I’d find you using it, and wearing my shoes, and singing at the top of your lungs. It was a sight for sore eyes for sure.”
“Shut up.” She punches him lightly in the shoulders.
“We missed - we, I missed you. Doesn’t feel right cooking without you.” He confesses quietly.
“Missed you too.” She breathes next to him. She feels the tips of his fingers brush against her thighs.
One day apart and all their pretenses start to fall away.
“Carm. I wish I had asked you to come with me.” She drops her fork on the table and splays her hands across the table, gripping the edge of the wood.
“Why didn’t you? For real this time.” She feels his knuckles graze her bare skin like encouragement to be more vulnerable.
“Scared.”
“Say more.”
“Scared of you.”
