Summary
In the ten years since Doctor Robotnik disappeared and the seven years since he stopped aging, alarmingly little had happened for Shadow the Hedgehog. As infuriatingly mundane as it was, there was comfort to be found in monotony. Change, he knew, was inevitable; the myriad of hard truths that bubbled just beneath the surface would not stay dormant forever. With an anniversary and a reunion on the horizon, Shadow would be forced to confront the reality he'd spent the past decade avoiding. Though, what he didn't know was that he wasn't the only one keeping secrets.

This is the first fic I've written in the past five years and it's an ambitious one at that, lol. Having recently celebrated Sonics 35th birthday, I wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on everyones lives; the good, the bad, and the ugly of getting older. This is largely an exploration of Shadow's Black Doom biology, the implications of his immortality, and his struggle with being the Ultimate Lifeform and how it juxtaposes against Sonic and his powers (cherry picked from Archie and Fleetway Comics) as they confront the harrowing reality of growing up (feat. the rest of main Sonic crew).

Zonic closed his eyes and rubbed his temples. A heavy sigh fell from his lips. The lamentations were already palpable as this was his case now. A witness he was now responsible for.
“I suppose you'd be staying with me.”
“Gee Za-Nicky,” Scourge grinned, sharp teeth glinting under the fluorescents, mood doing a 180 as the bravado found its home again, “I didn't know you were so eager to get me back to your place.”
