His first fear was that he would be alone, perhaps having forgotten a comment about John going out with a friend that day, or visiting his mother for the weekend. But as he slowly pushed open the door of John’s bedroom, which appeared to be in the exact place he expected it would be, he heard a creak on the floorboards from the next door down, mirroring his own motions.
He locked eyes with a man who looked identical to him, with dark eyes, thick, messy hair, and deep shadows under the eyes, even more intense than they appeared in the mirror after days of little sleep. Even without the ear defenders, sunglasses, or his usual dark blue sweatshirt, it was clear he was looking into the eyes of Sherlock Holmes.

Summary
Sherlock hasn't always been Sherlock, the machine. Once upon a time, he was a vulnerable young man falling in love. Once upon a time, that had led him to shut himself off from love entirely. Decades later, Sherlock might be opening himself up to love again.
A trip to Paris leads Sherlock to reflect on the ghosts of his past, while John begins to see his future with Sherlock more clearly.
