Summary
Simon swears he died on the SM-13, but apparently a ship saved him. Apparently an old ship that's freakishly new, and full of dead people and a comatose man who'll wake up soon.
He crafts a plan. He'll just beg the doctor to let him stay! The guy's pilot is dead, so he'll need a pilot! Genius.
And then the doctor doesn't remember... Anything. So to save some difficulty, Simon simply says that, yes, HE is the pilot. Absolutely he belongs here.
But Doctor Grace slowly starts remembering things...

“If I die, you have to get my body out of here,” the man pleaded, but Grace had to go. His oxygen was out. The guy would be dead in six minutes. “You have to get me out, even if I’m dead. Hey!”
“Just hold on!” Grace propelled himself through zero gravity, away from the radio.
“Don’t leave me here-!” The roar echoed through the ship halls.

Summary
Simon believes he's hallucinating. That the man he keeps seeing and the pristine ship he repeatedly finds himself in aren't real. That that monster is fucking with his head.
Grace believes he's got a lot more on his plate than just the fate of the earth, and he's not sure which task is more impossible: stopping the astrophage without any memories, or helping one man in another universe.
OR
By getting yanked between universes, Grace gets to experience the horrors, Simon gets to save the stars, and Rocky gets two (2!) humans for the price of one.

Grace's pusle is beating against his check. Simon knows pulse, where it bleeds out. Its trying to tell him something new, now. He shifts to put his ear to it, hear it's secret. He hears Grace's heart beat out alive alive alive.
No, that's not it, he knows that. What's the truth that exists now, right now. What is true about here and now. He remembers what Grace said, he had called it a comfort. He closes his eyes.
