Jean peers past him at the blizzard engulfing the city, drowning out even the angered roars of the monsters outside. “…What’s with the snow?”
“Yeah. About that…”
The Abyssal war at its most critical point, Barbatos is forced to gather more energy and therefore stops controlling the mild climate of Mondstadt. This leads to a multitude of events, including but not limited to: the first gathering of the Seven since the Cataclysm, a betting pool consisting of half of Liyue Harbour, Xiao's first and last time being an Archon and the invention of the saxophone.

It was the one that’s been guiding her for as long as she could remember—though not as ethereal sounding as it normally was—but the tone, cadence, and manner of protective speaking were the exact same.
She hadn’t realized she had stopped on the steps. Venti’s arm was still linked with hers and she heard him gasp in surprise as the motion pulled him back slightly. “Glory? You okay?”
“It’s you,” she said, not elaborating further.
“Huh?” Venti, no, Lord Barbatos replied, obviously confused. “Me?”

There’s a pause. “Someone saw me,” Venti repeats.
“Nimrod,” Diluc nods. “Got drunk in Angel’s Share afterwards. Charles told me, which means that everyone in the bar must know by now, and probably half the city.” Then he mutters something about Kaeya, which Venti would address if he felt anything like normal. It’ll be fine, probably.
The idea of Nimrod knowing, of half of the city knowing –
Anemo rises up between Venti’s limbs before he can even put the idea into words. He doesn’t think about it, barely processing what he’s doing, before he blinks out in a flurry of teal.
(Venti intervenes with an Abyssal threat and gets caught. Mondstadt doesn't see him again for weeks.)

And then his face did… something. Amo was not sure what, exactly, the something was, but… it was something.
Despite Amo’s disdain for the blue eyed freak, it seemed this time Zanka had been right. Amo could not ever tell him. Maybe after teaching Rudo the perfect smile, Amo would pretend that Rudo’s smile never changed at all just to bother him.

And then, almost scaring him back into unconsciousness, the person stops right beside him before abruptly hovering into his view. They peer into his face with a casual curiosity that causes Rudo’s rising anxiety to stop in its tracks.
The first thing he notices is the long, messy tendrils of hair almost touching his face, black and long with orange accents. And slowly, he trails his eyes up the strands, to the small face framed by those long locks of hair.
When he first heard those heavy feet coming towards him, he had assumed it was some grown man entering the room.
Instead, it is a girl just around his age looking back at him.

“You didn’t have any holidays like this up there?” Riyo asked him, propping an elbow up on the table and leaning her face on her palm, facing him. She pointed straight up with her other hand, clearly referring to the Sphere.
“Nothing like this,” Rudo said emphatically, gesturing vaguely even though this room wasn’t decorated like the mess hall or the town. They’d get the point. “Nothing that I’ve seen with decorations like you guys have here. Nothing so…colorful. And cheerful. Everyone out there today looked so… actually happy.”
Rudo gets introduced to a Ground holiday. It is entirely different to what the word holiday has meant to him all his life.

If there was one thing the Ground and the Sphere had in common, it was soulmates. Everyone had one—an undeniable truth no one could refute.

Except, apparently, Rudo.
Which, in hindsight, wasn't all that surprising. If anything, he expected that outcome.
He’d spent his whole life standing just outside that path, watching it unfold so easily for everyone else while it passed him by without hesitation, like something in the world itself had already decided he didn’t qualify. Like it understood that no one was ever going to love him unconditionally.
Not something like him.
So when it came to soulmates, it didn’t feel like a loss. Just another thing that wasn’t meant for him. Another confirmation that he was an aberration—a mistake the world had made when it tried to create a human.
He’d always drawn the short end of the stick. Why would this be any different? It wasn't as though he'd ever expected otherwise.
It didn't bother him.
It didn't.
Or, a Soulmate AU where everyone has a soulmark of their soulmate's name engraved onto them—only revealing itself the moment they touch.
