    Two days before the Fourth of July, Bucky sat in Sam's truck passenger seat and watched the tower disappear in the rear-view mirror.

     

    They did this every year. Steve's birthday meant their little retreat into Louisiana and watching fireworks together.

     

    Sam's hand laid intertwined with his on the center console. "You think they've figured us out?"

    "No," Bucky huffed. "They're too dumb. They probably think we hate each other's guts."

     

    Sam chuckled and kissed the back of his hand. Of course, it was metal and Bucky couldn't feel it, but the thought was appreciated.
