“I said I’d let him go.” Yuusaku made him swear it, his hands tight on Ogata’s arms and his cheeks still earnestly wet.
Usami’s eyes roll in their sockets. The whites flash up at him in the darkness. “So?”
“So.” Ogata bends and picks up his bayonet. Yuusaku knocked it from his grip earlier- or perhaps Ogata had just let it fall. The blade is smeared with mud, dulling the shine of the steel. He considers it for a second, then flips the bayonet in his hand and tilts the handle towards Usami. “Go ahead. Let him go.”

Summary
The English landscape, Lawrence muses, is really something that ought not to be viewed for longer than thirty minutes at a time. As a child, he would press his face to the train windows and count the fields of sheep and trees and tiny hamlets until he grew dizzy from it. Now, over a decade later, it all blurs together in a smear of dreary gray and green.
He wonders if this says more about him than the scenery.

Summary
“What did you think?” First Lieutenant Tsurumi asks him later that day. The curtains are half drawn in his office, and a swatch of sunlight slices brutally across the room. It catches the tip of Ogata’s boots, glinting off the fresh polish, and he steps back into the comfort of the shadows.
“Seems like a lost cause, sir,” Ogata says. “We’re nothing alike.”
“Oh, I think you’ll be able to find common ground somewhere.” Tsurumi smiles at him and folds his gloved hands neatly on his desk. “Family is important, after all. Try and make some memories together.” The weight in his voice suggests that this is less of an encouragement and more of a command.

“I want to be with you forever, Mister Tokushirou,” Usami says, when he’s twelve years old.
“Now, now, Tokishige, that’s something you should save for when you’re older,” Tsurumi says. He smiles when he says it, but it’s the same smile he gives the other boys, the same benevolent kindness that makes Usami want to tear their eyes out for seeing it.

There as may ways to make money in a place like Kamurocho as there are stars in the sky, and Akiyama's sorting through which in his mind he's outgrown as he meanders down Tenkaichi Boulevard. Can collecting's not an efficient use of a lunch break without a bike, and even on one, he gets winded too easily. He's too old to talk Yuya into letting him do a drop-in shift at Stardust, and he's too well-dressed to panhandle. He can't gamble without cash to spend, and even he's not quite shameless enough to borrow from the girls at Elise.
Locked out of Sky Finance, Akiyama scrapes together cash for lunch, by any means necessary.
