The victor stood motionless amidst the sand and dust, only looking up in response to the smattering of applause from the stands like he’d only just noticed there was an audience present. Amidst the general clatter of spectators getting up to leave or lingering to chat with acquaintances, Neuvillette remained in his seat as he watched the lone gladiator stride off with handlers trailing behind, all while the last words of the announcer faded into the air of the emptying Colosseum.

Neuvillette is the Court of Fontaine's youngest senator, seeking to sponsor a gladiator in the King's tournament this year as part of his plans to uncover more information about his heritage. An unexpected deed on the first day of the qualifying rounds catches his eye, but neither he nor the gladiator he signs a contract with have the faintest idea of how thoroughly their lives will be intertwined beyond their expectations. Meanwhile more powerful forces are poised to strike from behind the scenes, and the answers they seek may end up overturning everything they thought they knew.

Summary
It is sweet on occasion to play the fool.
Furina was born of a small mountain spring, the most unassuming of God King Remus of Remuria's many children. If one were to have asked anyone who knew her back then, who they would have guessed to live the longest of King Remus's progeny, she would have been the last on their list. But as Remuria fell, as all nations who dare to defy the heavens are destined, she alone remained of that damned blood line. She alone remained even as Egeria rebuilt the pieces of Fontaine from the Archon War. Furina alone remained when one of Seven Sovereigns, the Dragon of Water, was reborn into this world—and it was her who reached out and grabbed that little hand.
Neuvillette does not understand why he was born into this world—or who exactly he is. But, that strange woman who walked into his life one day has never lead him astray. So he continues to follow after her until their road ends.

Summary
In Wriothesley’s humble opinion, Neuvillette had far too much faith in him. He still remembered how the Iudex had vouched for his name, saying that he was right for the position. How the officials had argued against the appointment and how Neuvillette had stood his ground for the past murderer. It still seemed surreal, and Wriothesley had never stopped thinking about his circumstances with awe. The Duke of the Fortress of Meropide or the “king of the no-man’s land” as that fatui magician had called it. Truly a rags to riches story huh? How inspiring.
