He should get used to it. To this feeling of worthlessness. Of feeling like a loser.
After all, that’s who Macklin Celibrini is, isn’t it? A loser. He’s known it since the Olympics, and he only got the confirmation now, after the world championship. And the thing is Mack knows he should be grateful. He’s playing in the best hockey league in the world, he not only got to play during the Olympics but also the world championship. Once as an alternate captain and once as the fucking Captain. And both times managed to fuck things up. Lately he feels like that is the only thing he can do. Fuck things up.

It breaks Will’s heart. And all of the sudden, he doesn’t feel like celebrating anymore. His chest tightens and he just wants to jump through the screen and envelope his best friend in his arms, hold him tight, wipe away the tears.

Summary
It’s been over two hours since Germany lost. And while Jack really did try to have his thoughts occupied with anything else, the thought of JJ kicking off his shoes and hiding his face in his hands in the locker room kept haunting him. It shouldn’t surprise him. JJ usually pops up in his mind once or twice during the day anyway.
Still, his heart leaps out of his throat when his phone vibrates and a picture of JJ smiles at him. He barely heard the vibrations, the ringtone silent like always. He only felt it, sitting on the couch watching the game between Canada and Czechia. He doesn’t really think about what to do, before he pressed the green button.

Leo hätte wissen müssen, dass dieser Tag kommt. Sechs Monate ist es her und seitdem wurde Adam jeden Tag abweisender. Eigentlich sollten sie sich vor einer Stunde im Baumhaus treffen. Leo war wie immer zehn Minuten zu früh. Er hätte damit gerechnet, dass Adam zehn Minuten zu spät kommt. Aber nicht über eine Stunde.

He swore to himself we wouldn’t watch. Why would a game between Germany and Denmark interest him? And yet, when Jack turned on the Olympics live stream, automatically, his fingers pushed the button for the Germany game. And like always, as if they can’t do anything else, his eyes try to find JJ.
