Shane is watching over Rick as usual, his armchair dragged across the room, so close to Rick that he can see his chest move as he breathes. It's been hours at this point, but Shane will stay, guard Rick’s body, like a hound, guards its prey.
Rick is dreaming, his eyes moving under his closed eyelids that are framed by thick eyelashes. A passing thought of how obscene those lashes would look dripping with tears—maybe some smudged black framing them, coloring the tears dark. Maybe Rick would be gagging on Shane, tears prickling up as he opens up, letting him go deeper.
