Summary
After five months of his ED residency, Dennis has noticed a... peculiarity in the way Robby treats him compared to the other residents. Luckily for him, he might get some answers during one very not-so-great shift. Unfortunately for him, he has to suffer through it first.

Summary
“For the month I’ve been gone, you’re a lot bolder."
Immediately, Dennis was blushing again. Hard. Anything that previously came out of Robby’s mouth was tame compared to this charged tension in the room that Robby wasn’t even in. How did he always seem to do that?
Before Dennis could open his mouth to respond, Robby chuckled and asked, “Have you been holding back from me, Whitaker?”
OR
The first time Robby called Dennis on his sabbatical, Dennis didn't think much of it. That was until he kept calling, and Dennis always kept answering. Before he knew it, Dennis was calling him, and shit. He was in a talking stage with his boss.

Summary
He clutches his phone tight in his hand trying to stay inside of his body, trying to remember that he can’t do this right now, that he’s at work and sitting in front of his attending. He’ll figure it out, he always does, he just has to get through the rest of his shift and not break down. He’s worked too hard, sacrificed too much, to throw it all away for something out of his control. “Um, my dad is gonna die and I won’t be there.”
"I'm going on leave starting tomorrow. I could do Nebraska. I’ll take you.”
//
Dennis' father is dying a thousand miles away, and with the grace of God, shaped in the way of his attending, he goes home one more time.

Summary
Dennis Whitaker is standing on his doorstep, huddled in Robby’s own dark blue ski-jacket, burdened by two reusable grocery bags. They’ve got cows on them. Which is odd to focus on, but his addled brain just snatches onto that detail and refuses to let go.
“Oh, man,” Dennis blurts, staring up at him. “You look awful.”
“Nice to see you too,” Michael rasps out.
