It's why he only nods at Aemond when no one is looking and takes the blame that would have been aimed at him.
It's why he slips into Aemond's room after his mother and the maester have taken their leave and stays awake all night as a guard.

Baelon’s first memory is the sound of brittle cracking as his dragon claws itself into the world, shining brightly in the light of the candles. He remembers the pain from a cut along his fingers, inflicted on himself after he’d run his small hands along the sharp silver scales, smearing them with blood, and the equally fearful and awed look on his mother’s pale face as the dragon had tasted the red leaking from between his fingers, purring in satisfaction. He remembers the warmth the most, as Swiftstar had settled into his arms, radiating heat like a bonfire, so intense that his skin had been red for days afterwards. Oddly, he cannot remember the pain of the burn.

Aemond knows that what happened about Storm’s End will haunt him for the rest of his life, however long that might be when his sister receives the news of what he has done. In one moment, he has doomed his family, and he cannot take it back no matter how hard he wishes he could.

For a moment, just a second, it looks like the man’s eyes are black, even under the warm golden light from the ceilings, but when Tommy looks back up after glancing at the bottle of whiskey held in a surprisingly delicate looking hand, the eyes he sees looking back at him are brown. Dark, but nowhere near dark enough to be considered black by any stretch of the imagination. The man, who’s name Tommy realises he doesn’t know, doesn’t show any sort of expression on his face, but he still gets the impression he’s being laughed at somehow.

He also knows that Duke has something Tommy never had although it’s more likely that it’s the other way around, because Tommy has lines that he won’t cross for reasons that are his own. Duke has no such reservations.
