Summary
The drink she’d had earlier is still in her system, but Jean thinks Emma is far more intoxicating than any drink could hope to be. Jean has no use for alcohol when just talking to Emma makes her feel jittery, when Emma smiling at her is enough to make her feel lightheaded. Jean knows what this is, the butterflies in her stomach and simultaneous uneasiness and calmness she feels whenever she’s around Emma, she just doesn’t know what to do about it.

Summary
Emma doesn’t like it but she does understand why she grieves so much for him despite Emma and Scott not being Emma and Scott for years now. Some think that she shouldn’t feel so much for him, if she even feels anything at all but, frankly, Emma Frost doesn’t give a fuck about what people think of her.

Summary
Michaela, whilst grieving and overwhelmed with the feelings blossoming in her chest for her cousin's widow, does the only thing she can think to do when asked so sweetly to stay, she flees.
But now, after two years of running, she has returned to London, determined to make amends with the woman she has managed to convince herself she cannot fall in love with, under any circumstances.
Yet her chosen path is not an easy one, for Francesca Stirling, now seething with rage, grief, and a furious current of feelings she neither understands nor can explain, is just as determined to discover the very reason for Michaela's flight in the first place, a reason Michaela is intent on keeping to herself.

Summary
When Michaela left, she took the final puzzle piece.
It was impulsive, as so many of Michaela’s actions were, and the entire trip back to Scotland, in carriages and coaches and in temporary lodgings, she held the piece tight in her hand or traced her fingers around its edges and thought about going back to London. Francesca would surely miss the puzzle piece, or at least notice the new gap in the middle of her formerly perfect puzzle, and if Michaela turned around and returned it and blamed her sudden flight on temporary madness brought on by grief, Francesca would forgive her. She could be the support Francesca needed until the next season, or for a few more weeks at least, and everything would be fine.
Then she remembered the way John looked at Francesca like she was his whole world, and how it had felt when Francesca held her hand, warm and tingly and exciting, and she did not turn back.
Michaela runs away and in doing so, realizes she can't run from grief. Or from love.

Summary
Shadowheart, the guitarist for a small-time metal band on tour, nearly crashes her band's van into an auto body shop in a podunk called Rivington. That's the least of her worries. Every day on the road revolves around the devolving relationship with her ex, the Avatar of her religion and the frontwoman of the band. Everything is Shar, and Shadowheart knows no escape nor if she deserves one.
At least until Ash, the head mechanic of that dinky garage, questions everything Shadowheart's ever known, digging into her life until they both bleed.
Ash told herself to forget about them. Forget about Shadowheart. She needed to make forgetting easy and turn her heart to stone to the attractive, enigmatic stranger.
That’s all Shadowheart was. That's all she should be.
