“Do you see that, Taki?” Harua whispered conspiratorially.
Taki followed his gaze, nonplussed, to where Yudai and Fuma were talking. His mama seemed to be having a good time, laughing at some joke the other man had made.
“My papa… and your mama…” Harua said meaningfully, eyes wide, but Taki still didn’t understand what he was trying to say.
“Yeah,” Taki said, clueless. “They seem to be friends.”
Harua sighed, annoyed, before shaking his head. “But what if they can be more than friends?” he asked in a whisper so low Taki barely heard him. “They could get married! And we…” Harua grinned. “We would become brothers.”
Taki’s eyes lit up. He’d never had a brother before, and being brothers with Harua would be so cool. “We’d be like twins,” he said gleefully. “Y’know, ‘cause our birthdays are so close?”
Harua nodded, his smile full of mischief. “But for that…” he said, turning towards their parents again. “We need to make them fall in love.”

Harua scoffs, "I'm not even dating anyone right now."
"You're not?"
Harua shakes his head, "Nope, we broke up. It wasn't anything serious."
Maki can't hold his smile at that.
"Why are you grinning like that?"
Maki huffs, "I'm not." He says, still smiling.

“For what it’s worth, I think you’re a really good fake boyfriend to me.”
And I’m sure you’d be an even better real one to a very lucky someone one day, Harua thinks solemnly, but does not say out loud.
Alternatively,
Maki and Harua decide to start a fake relationship, but somehow end up with Very Real feelings and a very real found family of nine. It’s all Nicholas and Euijoo’s fault. Really.
