Summary
The New Lumière's peace is disrupted, the citizens brought to a shock at the news of one of their beloved expeditioners being killed in her own home by a stranger nobody can put a name to.
But the expedition knows, of course. They're the only ones to, and the only ones to know what Maelle's departure from the Canvas truly means. And so they have to take a risk, make an attempt to call out to the Painters themselves for the chance of convincing them to let the Canvas stand despite her absence.
Now back home, Alicia has to face the reality it has crumbled into. The state of her family, the conflict that keeps pounding on their door, all while pretending her return was willing so the Canvas gets to stand as long as she can convince her father to.

Summary
On December 33rd, 20XX, Verso Dessendre set his own home on fire, taking his life in the process.
Or at least, so says the official report. The Artists are not keen on sharing their secrets with the world, and the handiwork of a Writer is not easy to pick up on as an outsider.
But Alicia knows, remembers exactly what happened. It's the reason she had to leave her home in the first place and settle in the small town of Lumière under her aunt's care, away from those who would burn everything down just to get to her.
That begun a while ago. Now Maelle feels bold enough to return home- not alone, not merely visit for a weekend- and find some answers about that night that marked her life. What she doesn't feel ready for is being met with questions she didn't expect and doubts she'd never thought she would have about her own family.
After all, a Painter makes a lot of art when nobody's looking.

Summary
As Alicia entered the Canvas and was dragged into its pre-existing world, Aline took great care to shape the people around her daughter to provide her with a sense of safety, if not familiarity.
During that process, a forgotten fragment, ecstatic at the chance to get to see his sister again, adds his own piece to the story. One he can connect himself to and see his sister with at any time.
As such, Gustave is painted entwined with the leftovers of Verso's soul.
