A future Sterek fic that: 1) is in character, 2) doesn't bash any characters, 3) fixes Davis' timeline, 4) doesn't have sex, 5) has some character interactions that don't just revolve around Sterek/Stiles/Derek, and 6) addresses Derek and Stiles' unique traumas.

It’s a tentative, fragile thing, what they have together. Nothing more than the bare bones of something that might, in a different world, be worth defining.
Which means they fuck a lot, but not much else.
Stiles is okay with it, but he also knows himself pretty well by now, and enforcing a clear divide between sex and feelings has never been his vibe. Derek, though—Derek is skittish. A bunny-rabbit-heart beating fast, fast, fast beneath the sharp teeth and claws of a wolf’s costume.
He sees it, even if Derek pretends otherwise.
But also:
“Can you give us, like, two minutes, tops?" Stiles asks, a bit desperate. "Some of us didn’t get to orgasm, and I'm not naming any names here, but—yeah, okay, it’s me.”
His dad exhales, tired and displeased, the kind of breath that usually comes right before he puts Stiles under strict house arrest.
"Hale," he says resolutely. "Get your goddamn ass off my kid."

Summary
AU where Sam got out of the life, he continued to study at Stanford and eventually got a family of his own. He is happy, but still misses his brother. Meanwhile, everything that happened to Dean in the show, still happened just in a slightly different, Sam-less way.
Sam had no intention of doing anything hunting related again, until a co-worker is killed in a vampirish fashion and Sam decides it’s time to seek out the help of his big brother, who he hasn’t seen for 19 years, since Sam left for college. While Sam has moved on and grown up, he’s surprised to see that Dean did too and has even built a life for himself, his own definition of “normal”. The brothers reunite and do one last hunt together, but this time they won’t fall out of each others’ lives along the way. First, however, they must face the pain of not choosing each other all those years ago and learn who the other has become.
