Summary
Illuminated by the shadowy bathroom light, Will’s jaw tightened, soap encircling his head like a halo. Not an angel. More.
His eyes darkened, only a touch, and in them Mike saw the boy from the battlefield return. There was a fire behind his gaze, the kind that could break limbs and bring warriors to their knees. Mike wanted more of it.
Will discover his powers, and it unearths something within Mike. Something that can’t be forgotten.

Summary
“‘S better if you’re here.” Mike leaned forward. Elbows on his knees, glasses slipping down the bridge of his nose. “Don’t you think?”
Something about his tone was elusive to Will, like there was a hidden meaning behind his words that he refused to pull the curtain off of.
“I think so,” Will said quietly. He was confused, but he was also completely warm, completely safe. Even just sitting there on the couch with Mike, he was pliant and boneless. Right where he wanted to be. No matter what Mike said, he would agree. Because—well. It was all true, wasn’t it?
New York, 1994. Will is cursed. Because there’s no one else, no matter how hard he tries. There’s only Mike.

“Okay. Umm… God this is… hard. Ok. Umm… You remember Nevada? You… Said it was hard to open up to people you care the most, cause they can… they can maybe not like the truth? You remember that?”
Will just blinked fast. Still half asleep.
“God.. You really are half-asleep” Mike let out an exhale. “Will, I need you to listen to me, okay?” He almost grabbed his hand again, but didn’t. “I’m gonna say a lot… And probably freak the fuck out. Can you… can you pay attention?”

Summary
“It’s just that I haven’t seen anyone in—ages.” A flake of ash drifted down onto Will's shirt. “I mean, Mike, especially… it’s gonna be so weird.”
Kim hummed sympathetically. “You think so?”
“I know so,” Will said. He handed her the joint and rolled onto his side. “It’s, like—I don’t know how to explain it. We used to be—I mean—I used to be… he was everything. I couldn’t see beyond him, like…” He let out a little laugh. “I don’t know. I feel like seeing him again will be like relapsing, or something.”
Kim smiled. “You need, like, a safety plan,” she said. “If you think you’re gonna relapse on Mike, you call me.”
Will laughed. “Yeah, okay,” he said. “Deal.”

Summary
“Will?” Mike said slowly, not convinced this wasn’t some weird heat-induced hallucination. He had just been thinking (or trying not to think) about the man in front of him. His childhood best friend. His everything. His Will.
“I’m sorry, I know this is awkward, but the storm came out of nowhere and I didn’t want to get hurt, I tried Lucas’s house first but no one was home,” he brushed a drenched lock of hair out of his face. “Just—can I just wait out the storm here? I don’t have anywhere else.”July 1990. It’s the hottest summer in Hawkins on record, and it’s the summer after Mike and Will’s freshman year of college. It’s also the second summer they’re not friends anymore.
But when a tornado warning catches Will by surprise, the only place for shelter is Mike’s basement. And as the storm rages and the temperature—and tensions—continue to rise, Mike and Will unpack the events that lead to the end of their friendship—and where to go now.
