“Thanks for this, really,” said the girl from before, suddenly next to him. She didn’t seem in a hurry to leave. “I’m Aerith, by the way,” she continued, extending a hand. “We… haven’t met before, right?” she asked when Cloud didn’t immediately shake it. “Oh, please tell me I didn’t forget who you are and introduced myself again.”
Cloud let out a snort. “No, no. I’m, uh, Cloud,” he said, gingerly shaking her hand.
“I know,” she said, nodding towards the name tag. “I don’t have one yet. So you’ll just have to remember my name for now.” She turned to the kids as Cloud furrowed his brows. “Hey, everyone! My name’s Aerith—I’ll be your guide, tonight! Why don’t we all introduce ourselves?”
As the kids started rattling off their names, Cloud just stared at Aerith. She was the new girl?

It’s embarrassing to admit that I still haven’t been with another man, even though Zack and I have been broken up for six months. Six months isn’t that long after a broken engagement to feel unsure about re-entering the dating pool. And he was my first… everything. You don’t just get over something like that or feel ready to open yourself up to someone new overnight.
Though it was plenty of time for Zack to realize his heart had always been with someone else, and that he wanted to marry her instead. With the shortest engagement possible. The exact opposite of how he was with me. He wanted us to enjoy being fiancés, and not rush the process, and kept putting off setting a date.
At least now I know why.
All thoughts of my ex-fiancé evaporate when I stroll back into my shop and see Cloud.
