Men were simple creatures. This had been Mikasa's first lesson.
They loved to play pretend, they loved to live in a fantasy — to live in a world where they were the only creatures that mattered. “You smell like a pack of cigarettes,” he said ignoring her and pinching his nose. Then he turned to face her, a cruel look in his narrowed eyes. “Stop destroying your life before it even begins, Mikasa. Then we’ll talk.”
With that, he disappeared down one of their hallways, leaving Mikasa to stomp up the stairs and then slam her door shut, causing the picture frames on her wall with her and her parents to rattle. She sunk to the floor of her bedroom and into a small ball letting the tears stream down her pale now turning a flushed red face.
