It started, as most calamities do, with silence.
He always sat by the window, where the light could not quite reach him, as if the sun itself was wary of his stillness. I always watched him—Sae Itoshi, the guy who made absence look divine. His voice was a rumour, his heart a locked cathedral I wanted to enter barefoot.
