It’s been nearly 27 years since Eva Stratt forced Ryland Grace to board the Hail Mary and sent him off to his death for the greater good of mankind. The circus members had started to notice that something was different with Caine. Sure, he always acted unpredictable and in unusual ways, but that was just it— he was starting to become predictable! Predictable, in the sense, that whenever the circus's newest addition (a certain jester) offhandedly mentioned something, it was almost immediately in their next adventure! And that's not to mention all the glances, comments, glitches, and buffering that Caine had been experiencing. No, Caine wasn't being subtle about it. At least, not to the rest of them. But to Pomni? To himself? It would be a miracle if the thought even formed in their heads.
Or, I wanted an excuse to write some Showtime, because it's my crackship of the month. So here's a reimagining of TADC where Caine meets Pomni, and something inside his code shifts, and even if he doesn't understand it, it seems the others do. Mostly lighthearted fluff and hurt/comfort, because after that last episode we need it

Summary
He focuses on her voice over the pain and rapidly dwindling oxygen. It sounds like she’s walking as she speaks—he can hear her footsteps. She says he’s earned his freedom. More than that, he’s a hero. She tells him it’s a good day: for humanity, for him. He wants to believe her.
The footsteps stop. A moment of silence, and then—“Why isn’t he out yet?”
OR
Simon gets the data. True her word, Ava pulls him out. It’s not necessarily over after that.
