Summary
Mitsuru Tenji’s life used to be measured in millimeters and diopters. As an optician, he lived by a simple code: everyone deserves "Ten-ni"—the perfect 2.0 vision. He never expected to be practicing his trade in the middle of a pre-industrial wasteland where the "Eye of Insight" is a bloodline trait and "vision" is usually something people die for.
Dropped into a remote, neutral trade town far from the active skirmishes of the Uchiha and Senju clans, Mitsuru doesn't try to be a hero. He just tries to be useful. He builds a life in the shadows of the conflict, grinding lenses from quartz and teaching the local blacksmiths about the geometry of light. Summary
Itachi dies - both times- as he lived: trying to help Sasuke and falling horrifically short, while further traumatizing the poor boy in the process. His last thought as he is sealed away is that he had never done right by the person that is, in all the ways that matter, the center of his universe.
Then, he wakes up, cradled in his mother's arms, looking at the blurry faces of his parents, as Fugaku proudly names him Itachi.
He screams.
