Summary
All of Will's friends had dates for the school dance on Valentine's Day, which was unfortunately mandatory. Lucas and Max had been dating for a year, and Jane and Dustin had recently started dating as well. They would each be going together. Will didn't know who Mike would be going with, but he was sure he'd ask some pretty girl. Will wasn't going to ask anyone, because in Hawkins he couldn't go to the dance with another boy, besides the fact that there wasn't a boy he would go with. And besides, he'd really rather go with Mike, which of course would never happen. But then Valentine's Day arrived, and Mike showed up unannounced and asked if they wanted to go together, since all their friends already had dates. And Will, of course, could never refuse.

Summary
It's the summer after graduation and Hawkins is plagued by a heatwave. As Mike whiles his days away at the pool, he tries to figure out why he no longer feels normal about Will - and why he can't stop staring at his abs. But when lights start flickering and kids are talking about strange things happening at the Creel mansion, Mike soon realises that his identity crisis isn't the worst of his problems. His obsession with keeping Will safe makes him confront some traumas of his past - and feelings he hasn't been able to name.

Summary
