Remus tilts his head and his brows furrow as Sirius’s words finally sink in. “Oh?”
“Absolutely.” Sirius is certain of it.
“As a…musher?” Remus clarifies.
“No, obviously not as a musher. As Padfoot.” -

Here is what he knows, which is this:
That Sirius Black is capable of extraordinary cruelty. And that he is also capable of extraordinary tenderness. That Remus has spent the better part of his life unable to predict which one is coming, standing at the threshold of him like one stands at the threshold of a room where one cannot see the floor, where one suspects the floor might not be there at all, and choosing to step in anyway, every time. This is either a character flaw or the defining fact of him. He has never been able to decide which.
