He could feel that grounding cold lingering away as he watched the manifestation melt away from his vision. Mark reached out with a weak hand as he let out a shaking gripe.
The last of his effort diminished with that pitiful gesture, hand falling back to the mattress as his eyes fluttered by the second. Heavier and heavier they felt, like the weight of shackles on a prisoner's ankles.
Sleep finally hit him, and the last echoing words he heard enveloped him as he rested after so long.
"Sleep well, Mark."

"Well, hello!"
Mark whips around, seeing a man with a rather dashing mustache. He's wearing a yellow-tinged shirt—although it's hard to tell whether it was made that way or not—as well as pink suspenders.
"I was scheduled to first meet you some time after this—or maybe before this—but I think my interdimensional clock must've been a bit off.." The man spares a glance at his wrist. "Ah, well, time has always been a bit of a rapscallion, anyways, if you know what I mean. Never complies, that one.." He muses with a chuckle, as if this is a completely normal conversation.
The engineer furrows his eyebrows—and the rest of his face along with them. "Um. What? Where's the captain?"
The stranger shrugs. "The captain? Oh, they were probably sent to another timeline. No big deal!"
Mark's expression hardens, suspicion setting in. "Okay, how do you know that? Who the fuck are you?"
