“Lemme at them!” Merle laughed, running a finger over his nose to sniff up the remains of the dusting around his nostrils. “I will-”
Daryl rounded on him, pushing him away from the door. “You ain’t gonna do nothin’. The hallway’s fuckin’ full of-”
“Imma take them all on!” Merle exclaimed, jumping to the side to avoid him. He grabbed the table and started to pull it off the door.
“No, you won’t, ya ass, that’s the fuckin’ cocaine talkin’.”
They were on the fifth floor of an apartment building, the outside wall nothing but rows upon rows of bricks, no staircases, no drain pipes, no lighting rods, no damn way out.
“Hey, crackheads!” came in through the window.

He's been balancing the fine line between navigating Will's wrath and Merle's antics, doing just fine, until a pig moves in across the street from Merle. And Officer Rick Grimes is hellbent on getting in his way.
(This story has been sitting in my drive for a while, and I haven't been able to continue. Unfortunately, it will remain unfinished for now but I was constantly revisiting it, rereading it myself in the absence of young daryl fics out here, and decided that the niche is so small that even an unfinished fic could help just a little... Hopefully, I'll continue this someday. Hope y'all enjoy)
