Luca had the misfortune of meeting Roger Crowell at 2023's NHL Awards. He hated every second of talking to that man and it showed on his face. Ilya noticed how upset his right winger was and when Luca explained he had spoken to Crowell, the Russian went on a small rant about all the things the man and Coach Theriault put Shane through during his last season with the Montreal Voyageurs.
Luca felt furious that the best player in the league could be treated like that for his sexuality. If that was the reality for Shane, then what could someone like Luca expect (if) he ever came out? Now, he might be shy and known for being easy to startle, but one thing Luca had learned after many years online was how to subtly deal with homophobes.
