Odysseus has never wanted a marriage of convenience. Yes, call him cliche, but if you asked him, convenience was overrated when true love existed. He meets a girl--under unfortunate circumstances--but she is beautiful and smart and kind and cunning.

Penelope was visiting Ithaca. Then a boy falls on top of her--one that she recognizes as Prince Odysseus of Ithaca. He offers to take her to a nearby spring to make up for their unprecedented meeting.[OR OR]
Odysseus is absolutely lovesick. Penelope is amused and charmed. Athena is absolutely done.(the title is from the cut son, 'Aphrodite, can you guide me?' from EPIC.)

Summary
The gods are complex beings--manifestations of concepts that existed long before mortals ever graced the Earth. They are multi-faceted diamonds that exist with more reflections than the world could ever fathom.
Many of them exist with different epithets, aspects that manifest according to their domains, each their own unique appearance and personality--but all the same person.
Balancing all of their aspects could be a difficult job, especially for deities with a vast array of them. It was like trying to balance a knife on your pinkie finger. Many of them had managed it by now, creating a delicate balance so that they could both complete their divine duties as gods and still have time to themselves.

Or; The gods have multiple personas and they are trying.

Summary
Athena goes to Zeus in private to request Odysseus's freedom. Instead of striking Athena, Zeus offers her a deal. He will release Odysseus from Ogygia if Athena agrees to spend a year as a mortal in Odysseus's palace. With little say in the matter, she accepts.
On Ithaca, Athena awakes in the body of a 12 year old servant, specifically an orphan servant with a reputation for poor performance. Which is good because Athena has no idea what she's doing and doesn't have much time to learn. Suitors have infected the palace, Telemachus is waiting for divine help that will never come, and Odysseus will be home in two weeks. She has a lot of work ahead of her, and it won't end when Odysseus retakes his throne.
