Summary
IOWCS is about a 16 year old trans boy named Venus Dryoc, born and raised in the Marshal's Compound, the underground base of the Marshals. The Marshals are a group dedicated to the hunting and extermination of creatures called Aberrants, which are monsters with various abilities that started appearing spontaneously 76 years ago. Aberrants have what is often called an Aberrant Mark somewhere on their body and if a human were to kill the Aberrant, carve out its Mark and consume it, the human will gain the unique abilities of that Aberrant.
During Venus's test in order to become a full Marshal, he is sent to the surface in order to kill his first Aberrant on his own (or die trying), he discovers the secrets of the Marshals.
Venus decides to run away, joining a group of rebels, trying to end the Marshal's operations.
