“Rorikstead is half a week’s ride from here,” he pointed out.
“I lost my horse.”
“You lost it? What? In a bet?”
“To the stomach of a sabrecat. Two sabrecats, if we’re splitting hairs.”
Which had left her no choice but to build a makeshift stretcher from tree branches and Erik’s shield, in order to drag him the rest of the way to Rorikstead. She’d only turned to that when carrying him failed. If she’d kept at that plan, she would’ve died long before she could’ve gotten him to help.
“It’s a week’s walk,” he said.
Astra huffed a sigh. “Do you want me to find you a rolling pin, to add the final touches to this performance?”
