"Excuse me, what?"
"We could put him up in a hotel room, of course," the coach explained. "But with his reputation, that's a little too risky for us. And you live alone. Wouldn't having a roommate be a nice change?"
Fuck no. For a long time now, his apartment had been the only place where he could be himself.
"Of course, we can't force you," the GM reassured him. "But we think it would be best for the team."
His jaw clenched, his shoulders felt tight. Everything in him screamed to say no, but instead he said, "Okay."

Summary
After Shane's plan to come out to Ilya in Tampa falls through, the pair have a falling out. There is no cottage. Instead, Ilya is forced to wait and see Shane at a charity event being held in New York. Ilya hopes that, after a miserable summer apart, he and Shane can reconcile.
There's just one problem.

Shrugging one shoulder far more casually than he possibly feels, Ilya says, “I like both. Is secret, okay?”
“Okay,” Hollander says, voice cracking.
He doesn’t say anything else. The air’s so heavy around them that it feels like being in the middle of a scrum, the weight and heat of all those bodies pressing down on you. Danger always feels like hockey; it’s the most dangerous thing Ilya knows, except for this. Everything dangerous in his life involves men’s bodies and just how close he can get to them. Closer than he probably should.
A year after mysteriously dropping out of the 2009 draft, Shane Hollander is signed by the Boston Raiders, right behind Ilya Rozanov.
