    Summary

Aang's energybending fails, and the war is lost. But before the gaang can blink, they wake up in the past, on the day that Katara and Sokka found the Avatar.

The war's a lot easier to win when your biggest enemies are on your side from the beginning.

Ft. the gaang's antics, loads of dramatic irony, and literally the entire Fire Nation being confused as to why, when, and how the banished prince got happy emotions and friends...

    Something's wrong.
The steps fly under Zuko's feet and the door bangs open in front of him and—
The cold steals the breath from his lungs, the heat from his chest, as he rushes the edge of the boat, hands searing on the cold railing.
The world is white, he’s on the deck of a ship, and in the sky, there’s a burning blue light.

    Or

Zuko wakes up in the past.

Toph knew about soulmarks. She knew about the words that danced across a person’s skin, in elegant script or rough characters, changing to match the most prevalent thoughts in their soulmate’s head. She knew some people had only one, while others could carry two or even three sets of words, destiny’s way of chucking a rock to say hey, you’re gonna want to listen to these guys. She knew that when soulmates met, the marks changed color from plain black to match one another’s eyes, or the color of their bond, or something sappy like that.

What Toph didn’t know was if she bore any soulmarks to match the heartbeats she could sometimes feel fluttering over her skin.

He’d been pacing across the deck, considering in which direction to search next, when a great beam of light suddenly shot up into the sky far ahead; a beacon, a herald, a return. Surely, such a powerful thing could only come from one source, one which had to be-

Zuko collapsed to the deck before he even had a chance to demand if Uncle Iroh knew what it meant.
