His right eye cracked open first, groaning at the sunlight pouring through the bare window. The left followed, pulling a figure into focus – a woman standing at his bedside, haloed in gold like the sun itself had chosen her. An incandescent spotlight.
Dark hair spilling loose, long and wavy. Fine-boned features with a hint of elfin, like she belonged half to this world and half to a storybook. A bowed mouth shaped like it had secrets worth keeping, and wide doe eyes men braver than him might gladly fight and die for.
“Mister Jane?”
Awfully formal even for a one night stand.
“Did we… sleep together?”

He enjoys pushing the boundaries of what Lisbon is willing to do to catch criminals, and he can now admit it makes him hot to watch her brilliant brain whirl as she draws her own conclusions.

When she looks at him, she’s brought back to that moment years ago when she told him that at the right time he’d choose life. She’s seen it in his gaze back then, this trace of hope, a need to live and breathe again without this weight on his chest.
She sees it again, now, the clarity in his gaze, no hidden tricks, no lies, just pure honesty. There is a slight smile on his face which she traces with her fingertip, his delicate wrinkles disappearing under her touch. His pupils dilate, darkness eating the colour almost completely. And it hits her with the same burning magnitude that in this moment he chooses something again.
He chooses her.
And this is all she needs.

Although Lisbon claimed to have finally come to Jane’s side of justice— agreed that in the case of Red John, justice and vengeance were the same thing— Jane didn’t believe her. He didn’t believe that someone as good and honest and virtuous as her would simply be okay with murder. She was too perfect to go down that road.
A slight canon divergence for 6x06 "Fire and Brimstone". What if Jane and Lisbon kissed on the beach before he left her.

[SPOILERS 3×24 Strawberries and Cream Part 2]
However, contrary to expectation, contrary to what Jane knows about him, Kimball lets out an exhausted sigh, fed up, lacking motivation and unwilling to fight. He seems to rethink his thoughts, looking and yet not blue-eyed, as if considering telling him, Patrick Jane, what he has to say.
The CBI man comes to a seemingly obvious resolution, but one that still isn't easy to express in a way that doesn't seem insensitive.
Or maybe it's just the consideration for him, Jane, who is locked up, ignorant of the outside and who, as much as he finds it questionable, could affect far more than anyone on the team.
In the end, he decides to express it all in a single sentence.
"She didn't make it."
[Or also, Lisbon's injury is worse than expected.]
