As a card carrying Edward Cullen hater since the tender age of 16, I love any and all stories that portray him as the sanctimonious, hypocritical asshat that he actually is. This is an interesting look at just a few of Edward's victims and reflects the problem with a mind reading ability. No matter how dark someone's inner thoughts may be, you can't possibly know a person's character without knowing them. The author does a great job humanizing these people and making readers instantly empathize with them. The final passage featuring Edward's perspective is chilling.

Casey likes to divide things up into categories, into easily understandable pieces that she can analyze and study like she’s preparing for a final. It’s part of why she likes Paul so much, sitting down in his office and talking about this thing (usually Derek related although various boyfriends have made guest appearances) and breaking it down into manageable parts.
So when she and Derek have sex for the first time, Casey decides this is as good a place as any to divide into before and after (she refuses to analyze it though, Freud was always her least favourite and she doesn’t feel like going down that route).

Even so, Jess worked at seven separate locations between then and his twenty-second birthday. As Jess scraped his way across the United States the identical aisles and industrial stench became the closest thing he had to home.
By forty Jess had nearly forgotten Walmart existed at all.
