Maybe meeting, and pursuing Soundwave had unlocked deep, encrypted coding he came online with that had laid inert until his circumstances had been ideal. Untouched, but there; gnawing at the edges of his thoughts, sleeping in his emotional circuits as they waited for the key.
The closest thing to instinct they had.
He tapped the back of Soundwaves helm. “Do you feel what you have done to me?”
Soundwave purred, low and deep. “Affirmative.”

One-oh-six-one was an anomaly.
Well, perhaps that was inaccurate.
They could very well be a perfectly average member of their own species.
But no mecha Prowl knew of could punch a Quintesson in the face, snag their servo in its jaws, rip off their own servo to escape, kill that same Quintesson with extreme prejudice, and then scoop their missing piece from its mouth; not without expressing any form of pain at all.

Playing phone tag with an infuriatingly hard-to-track-down SpecOps Commander who hides behind email chains and faceless reports, however, was not on that list.
How can Optimus Prime expect him to strategise if he's constantly wasting his time with this obnoxious, paranoid, mysterious spawn of the Unmaker?

The space station The Lost Light has a bit of a reputation.
It's Station AI, Red Alert, has a worse one.
Ian “Inferno” López doesn't have a choice. It's the Station Master job or bust, and he's going to put all he has into it. Even if that means most his days are spent winning over Red Alert instead of actually running the Station.
