The woman’s voice is soft as she gestures for him to sit across from her. Slowly, Elys lets himself down. As he folds his legs, resting his arm on his knee, she begins to set out a number of supplies. A mortar and pestle, crafted out of the same red granite that cobbles the street of the Pliecé Rosém outside. An earthen cup. A teapot, which she places over an indentation on the table in which is set a steel bowl and a grate. The bulge of the teapot is stamped with an image of a sickle wreathed in grapevines. The significance of it is lost on Elys.

“Saber burn,” Canderous says. It's not the only one Van has. A few on their shins and thighs. Several on their arms. Not unlike marks made when sparring, but Canderous doesn't think the Jedi would train with sabers capable of burning or severing limbs.
“It's too old to be a saber burn,” Van says. “It was on me when I woke up, well before I ever touched a lightsaber.”
“It's too broad to be from a blaster,” Canderous says. The tip of his forefinger traces the edges. “Look, see? Blaster burns are tapered at the end.” He shifts, displaying a mark on his ribs. It's faded, but the teardrop shaped patch of skin is still evident.

Summary
It's irony, she decides, that her vet husband is the dead one and his lounge singer wife is the one who makes it out of the vault into what remains of the world. A cosmic joke. The universe kicking her while she's down. Then again, Vera doesn't think she's that special. There's not much of a place for her in the wasteland anymore. God only knows how far she's willing to go to prove that she can make one.

I wrote most of this when I was 18 and I kind of hate it now 😅 I'm leaving it up for posterity and some of it could still be considered canon to her story, but this is all very old, and Vera's character and backstory has changed a bit since then.- Words:

“Why do you want to go there?” Charon asks, leaning forward. There’s nothing that place can potentially tell her about his contract that he can’t. He doubts the records of a two-century old base will be able to tell her more about the redacted aspects of his contract than he can, which is, admittedly, very little.
He’d rather her just say what she wants to know. If she wants something specific, she can just tell him to do it. If he can’t, or won’t, or doesn’t want to— he’ll tell her.
She looks at him funny. Like he should already know this. “Charon,” she says, “I’m going to break your contract.”
