Summary
Relationships are forged in hardship, certainly, but it's the quiet times between grand last-stands and penultimate struggle when one truly notices the change. One mage, that is. And one hero-of-the-universe, too. As well as their peanut-gallery audience of friends.
(Wherein Dorian and Lavellan both have it bad, go figure. Some allusions and references to the main questline of Dragon Age: Inquisition and its (non-Trespasser) DLC but the majority isn't included. I wanted more of this ship but I'm tired of writing out the entire plot of the game just to change a few small things. That being said, there still may be spoilers!)

Summary
A Dragon Age: Inquisition story anthology.
Ilan, the Herald of Andraste and Leader of the Inquisition, is cool, withdrawn, and only communicates with a select few people. He doesn't speak in public, and he does not, under any circumstance, tell others about where he's from, or about the strange black marks on his arm which seem to war against the magic of the anchor.
Syrillon, a morally-grey thief, conman and complete twit, has joined the Inquisition for reasons unknown. Half--if not all--of the words he says are some form of lie, but he's insistent that he help them to seal the Breach and stop Corypheus. Hidden motivations toil behind polite little smiles and violence is just as common in the Fereldan backcountry as it is in the middle of a populated city street. Her head turns twice when she sees him, as though she cannot believe her eyes. Hawke leaves Sebastian, Aveline and Merrill standing by the gates of Hightown, turning back to walk to Fenris. The three of them watch from afar as Fenris rubs the back of his neck, stares pointedly at his feet as he speaks. The tender way Hawke’s fingertips touch his cheeks, direct his gaze upwards. She gently reminds him that he is an equal and that he never has to lower his gaze to anyone anymore.

A party was never quite a proper party in Tevinter until there was at least one assassination attempt, and the novelty in the attempt at Magister Caius’ party lay not quite in its actual occurrence but in the ambition of its assassin.
At the height of Caius’ decidedly juvenile lyrium-laced drinking game, during the start of dinner, Magister Fabiana made a sudden gesture close to the Divine, all the while leaning closer, as if to say something private. Divine Leonthius' hand snapped up, viper-quick, grabbing Fabiana’s hand high on the wrist. She rose from her seat, fright and outrage both in her eyes, fire stealing hot up from her trapped wrist before it was abruptly… gone.
Shock froze Fabiana’s snarl in her throat, even as, with a gentle, almost intimate economy, Leonthius pulled Fabiana towards him and shoved a dagger up through her ribcage.

Cullen and the Inquisitor grow apart just before Corypheus is defeated. In the aftermath, the tension between them and Cullen’s worsening symptoms from his lyrium withdrawal convince him to leave his post and return to South Reach to be with his family. Almost two years later, the Inquisitor arrives there on business and sees him again for the first time. Unsurprisingly, he has not gotten any less handsome, and she is not any less regretful about what happened between them. But reconciliation is not an easy process, nor is it an inevitable one.
