“And then what?” Mydei asked harshly, and he deeply regretted the words before they had even fully left his mouth. Like a stab wound, the knife still hanging in, he just had to reach out and twist the blade out of morbid nature. Aggravated by the lack of options, the lack of choice.
“And then I would do something I couldn’t undo.” Phainon tried to add bite to his words and glared back at the Kremnoan but it fell flat in a pitiful way. Mydei held his gaze for longer than comfortable.
“…I'm sorry.” There were certainly better words to be said but they were far beyond him and none of them sounded right. He didn’t have the extra time to squander pondering what better phrasing. He didn’t even really know why he said cruel things like this.
The blond’s fist connected with his face, a sickening crunch being heard, sending Phainon staggering back on uneven footing.

Sure, it's not fair, but his dead serial arsonist murderer of a father has managed to ruin his life from beyond the grave. It's even less fair that the one good thing he had, Regto, was burned away in the apartment fire. The last straw was how easily the fire starter was able to walk away from the scene.
Sure, they aren't blaming him. He's not in cuffs, but everyone thinks he did it. His only chance happens to be some random foster parent from several towns over. That's fine. He'll leave this place behind, but don't think for a second he's let it go. He may not know their face, but he'll find them. Then he'll do exactly what they've done to him: set it all on fire.
Modern AU! Rudo is left in the foster system after Regto dies in an apartment fire. Now he's gotta tucker on while being the only person who believes the fire wasn't an accident (or is he?).

The air out there was horrible on a good day, terribly thick in a way that sat heavy in your lungs no matter how much you cough it up. They’d already gone through most of the clean oxygen tanks hours ago, forcing everyone to start rationing what little they had left while occasionally breathing in the bad air just to preserve the rest.
Nobody was taking it well.
Rudo had long since stopped talking as much, curled up near the side of the vehicle with his mask pressed tightly against his face. Amo looked pale. Zanka was visibly irritated by everything, which honestly wasn’t unusual, but now it had the added edge of somebody running on almost no sleep.
Even Enjin’s own thoughts were starting to feel sluggish.
So maybe that was why he almost didn’t question it at first when he spotted someone familiar standing just outside the vehicle.

“You’re…” Gris’ words trail off, and he glances at him before shaking his head.
“I’m what?” Enjin mutters, letting his fingers dance down Gris’ spine. The supporter shivers, leaning into his touch before he locks eyes with him again, tightening the hold on his waist. His other hand comes up to trace the tattoos that adorned Enjin's skin, the man's hand warm against his neck.
“You’re mine.” Enjin doesn’t know if it was the way Gris’ voice dropped, or maybe the grip he has on him, or even the mark on his neck still damp with spit, but chills break out across his skin as his words. Not the kind that came from just the right touch or dirty words. It was the kind that was followed up by a hole opening up in his stomach, or the way your stomach lurches while falling.
He feels sick, like he’s going to vomit if he doesn’t get off this bed, or get away from Gris.
OR
You can bury memories, but all it takes is the right words to dig them up again.

Getting Enjin to open up about his past was like getting an alley dog to unlock its jaw for the purpose of surrendering a scrap of food: wholly impossible, with the strong probability of getting mauled for your troubles.
Gris has been able to chip away bits and pieces over the years, stories of an orphaned kid juggling three jobs at a time, rescued from something horrid by a stranger. Enjin refused to give up much else, leading the detective work on Gris. So he put together the puzzle pieces on his own, rough guesses that made his stomach nauseous and his mind hoping he wasn't right.
And now they were teetering on that edge. Where his suspicions were about to be confirmed. His stomach lurched, blinking away the wetness in his eyes.
Taking a deep breath, Gris prepares himself to fall.
