Summary
For most of the cultivation world, life regains some semblance of peace after the war. The Venerated Triad, however, are facing a host of old and worsening problems, with Nie Mingjue becoming increasingly violent and unpredictable under the influence of Baxia, Lan Wangji in a coma after his whipping, and Jin Guangyao supervising the chaotic Xue Yang as he reconstructs the Yin Tiger Tally. Lan Xichen's attempts to soothe or even cure Nie Mingjue fail, but Jin Guangyao has a theory: fight poison with poison, or, "maybe this time I'll get hit intentionally". Maybe violence helps, actually. This unfolds into an entanglement between them that he could never have predicted, even as the rest of his life becomes increasingly disordered.

Summary
On the day Meng Yao was supposed to leave for Langya with Sect Leader Nie’s recommendation letter in hand, the Wen launched a surprise attack on the Nie camp. As Meng Yao contemplated the aftermath, he thought he’d have really liked to meet the strategist.
He had little time to appreciate the beauty of such a clean meticulous strike, however. For one, it left the esteemed, fearsome Chifeng-zun dead.
For another, it made the recommendation letter completely useless.
