Sizhui uses something he didn't know he could. Lan Wangji warns him very carefully of the danger it has placed him in. This haunts me.

    Bookmarker's Notes

In the year 202 of the Fourth Era, in the month of Second Seed, the Sun rises on a changed Skyrim.

After the conflict with the Thalmor, The Reach is a wasteland of ashes.
Under Noster Eagle-Eye, and the Ebony Warrior, the men of Blackreach have broken the Thalmor in Skyrim.
The Dragon Priest Morokei has been defeated, though the cost was high.
Now, only five princes remain in Oblivion. The Dragonborn is missing.
Draugr roam far from their crypts, in large numbers and with cunning tactics.
The stars stand still in the sky: even the Serpent; ever-random in movements, is sitting in place.
As stars fall, it becomes plain: Reality itself is unraveling.
No matter what historians might claim in years after, the 9th of Second Seed was not the day everything changed. But it was the day the change became visible.
On that day, the stars came out before sundown. On that day, the sun began repeating the same course.
And the Moot has yet to choose a High King.
Thorald Gray-Mane and the men of Blackreach have a part to play. Farengar sends the Companions to High Hrothgar itself, to speak with a dragon. Gelebor departs Darkfall Cave at his god's bidding. Teldryn Sero and his employer Vidrald, are fetching the parts they'll need.
This is not a crisis to be ended by a lone hero, but by many ordinary people. Each player has his or her role in the scheme to come. Some collaborate. Some are not even aware the others exist. All are needed to bring an end to the Shadow Unending, to un-jam the bar that has stopped the very wheel of Aetherius in place.

This is technically the fourth and last installment in a three part series. It doesn't suffer from being read as a standalone at all. Everything that came before it is either explained clearly in-story when the narrator who wasn't there needs to hear about it, or not relevant at all. The Dragonborn never does show up; but that's not a problem. He's mentioned multiple times by people who've seen him: he's busy doing something not-on-mundus. The Hero of Kvatch does show up, in a very surprising role that takes some reading between the lines to spot.
There are some original characters. They're very good characters. Zaryth the Dunmer wizard in particular is a refreshing one, she's very much a TES Morrowind character. There are also some non-OC characters, who are people we do know traveling under false names. All in all, Shadow Unending demonstrates a very good grasp of Elder Scrolls on more than the surface level, and even the blatant divine intervention is palatable - it's not cheap. At all. This is a story about ordinary and some extra-ordinary people stepping up to do what they can do. And the ending was very satisfactory.

    Summary

Three hundred years is a terribly long time.
    ~68~

From his perch on the narrow windowsill, Jack watches the crowd murmuring and shuffling into seats, coughs quieted behind raised fists and voices hushed not out of courtesy but from unease. He knows them all. He's played with many of them in the past, these children turned adults but always his. The people of Burgess, and maybe together they'll find a way to outwit the dread shadow covering the world.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Harry takes a tip from Lockhart in second year, Conspiring with Fred and George, he starts something. Albus Dumbledor and the rest of the staff are enabling it. To this day, one of the silliest things i've read. Utter crackfic. And very funny.

"What's the problem, Severus?" The headmaster asked nonchalantly, but his eyes twinkled.

Severus huffed. "I can't go anywhere without those dunderheads asking for my autograph or picture…Creevey has blinded me countless time with that infernal contraptions of his…over half of the student body is wearing those stupid wigs…and Potter! Potter is walking around wearing my…er, clothes like mine, in addition! If you don't put a stop to this, headmaster, the Dark Lord won't have to worry about the infernal brat's survival; I'll take care of him myself!"

"Oh, Severus. Don't worry. It's a phase, I'm sure. The students will find something else to devote their interest in. I, for one, believe this is good for you."

    Severus spluttered. "GOOD?!"

"Indeed. Now you know how Harry feels about the entire unwanted fame thing."

Severus sighed. "How much do you want, Potter? To end this?"

The brat had the nerve to look scandalized. "Excuse me? Are you actually trying to bribe the president of the Severus Snape Fan Club? How dare you! Who do you think you are?!"

    "Severus Snape," Severus replied dryly.

Potter's eyes widened in mock-realization. "Merlin's pants! I'm standing in the dungeons classroom alone with the Severus Snape! Wicked! Can I have your autograph?"

    "POTTER!"

"Severus, Severus. Fame is a fickle friend…remember that."

Severus clenched his fists to prevent himself from socking the moron's teeth out. Lockhart continued, oblivious.

"Celebrity is as celebrity does. Of course, you have quite some time before you get as famous as me…why, I was just telling young Harry—"

Imbecile! I can't even see how Potter puts up with this cognitively inept swine!

    "—few ideas for your potions—"

I'll obliviate him and stuff him in the back of Weasley's Ford Angola before I let him within a hundred yards of my private potions lab, the incompetent fool!

"By the way, would you mind signing my new T-shirt, Severus?"

    "AAAAAALLLLLLBBBBBBUUUUUUSSSSSSSSS!"

    Summary

There are no bones, at least not here, as he makes his slow way down what must have once been an avenue of some grandeur. He's not sure why he thought there would be. Five hundred years have elapsed since the cataclysm here. Maybe animals had carried them off. Maybe they were swallowed up by the drifting sands. Maybe Gluttony had eaten them. Maybe someone had buried them.

    Maybe Hohenheim had buried them.

Al explores his father's ghost town.
