Summary
Natalie Goodman feels utterly helpless.
Ignored in favor of her mother and the brother she never knew, Natalie finds herself getting poor grades, botching her Winter recital, unable to get into the university of her dreams, and losing herself to pills. Now more than ever, she needs Someone.
David Fry also feels utterly helpless.
Promised the world as a little kid, David finds himself completely disillusioned with the world around him, struggling to connect with his emotionally absent father, academically slipping, and losing himself to pills and alcohol. Now more than ever, he needs Someone.
Getting what they want doesn't fix everything, but it helps to know they have Someone. And a Someone is the most important thing they could have.

Summary
“This is the part where you come back.” The Emcee said just before she could call out to him. His words were slurred, but he said them in English so he couldn’t have been that far gone.
She remembered when he was beautiful. When she’d thought he was the most beautiful person she’d ever seen. A shiny beacon of light in a world with too many shadows. An invitation. A home. Now he was just one of the shadows and she refused to let it break her heart.
After Sally fights with Cliff over going to America with him, Sally returns to the KitKat Club to preform after being gone for months. She finds the Emcee, drunk and talking in riddles. Who is he really?

Summary
*now complete!*
I apparently can’t stop writing these two.
Gabe and David’s lives get enormously busy. Gabe’s musical has turned into a second job and David has taken on extra coursework.
Their relationship is tested by Harold, old wounds, their first real fight.
They take much needed extended break to America together. He sees Gabe’s world firsthand: the warmth of his home and the shadow of illness.
The trip culminates in New York, where Natalie and David reveal they’ve secretly spent months working on a surprise for Gabe.
