“No, come on, what have you seen?”
“You don’t use your left hand unless you have to, you consistently favor your left leg, and you lean in closer a lot to hear people when they’re talking.”
“And what did that tell you?”
“That something happened to you, probably on the job, and probably not something you’ll recover from.”
OR Eddie joins the 118 after Buck is permanently disabled by an explosion at a call. Despite initial tensions, they learn just how important they can be to one another.

Hen reaches out of her bunk to turn off the overhead light. Buck’s face is illuminated by the glow of his phone. After a minute or so, he locks the screen, his face disappearing into the darkness.
“So what was everyone’s first kiss like?”
The Station 118 bunkroom has witnessed a lot over the years. Private conversations, spats, occasions of affection, joy, and anguish. It’s seen pranks, and games, and camaraderie. It’s even been privy to an unfolding love story or two.

“Because of course he was,” Eddie interrupted, and Buck shot him a heatless glare. Eddie waved him to continue.
“And they didn’t actually originally send gifts to their crush or whatever. It was more like a name draw of anyone in the community. Like a Secret Santa.”
“A Secret St Valentine,” Hen smiled. Buck clapped his hands together as Bobby emerged from the loft steps.

When Buck discovers the early Valentines Day tradition of community gift giving, he ropes the entire firehouse into a Secret Santa style gift exchange. Of course, it's Eddie who draws his name.

Buck and Eddie had been dating for just over a month, but they were nowhere near ready to tell the team. They just didn’t need constant eyes on them in the early stages of a relationship and all the unwarranted advice that would be surely coming their way.
Most importantly though, Eddie hadn’t come out as gay to the team yet. He wasn’t worried about the reaction he’d receive, but he was still coming to terms with what it all meant for him. However, loving Buck was so easy, so Eddie was working on it for himself but also for Buck.OR
