“... Come closer,” she finally says at the end, holding her hand out to him. “Let me inspect you.”
Shen Qingqiu hesitates - he has told no one where he went. If she were to pull some trick on him… But Madame Meiyin is well known for her palm readings, and she seems quite serious. Clutching Xiu Ya’s hilt tightly with one hand, he approaches and lets her take the other.
After a long moment, Madame Meiyin sobers even more, the last of her playful amusement fading entirely.
“Child, how are you even alive?” she asks him in horror.
Shen Qingqiu scowls, snatching his hand back from her. “This master did not come for a lecture. If you know what is wrong, then--”
“I most certainly know what is wrong,” she says. “You have been starving for your entire life!”

Yue Qingyuan spotted him and smiled widely—which was already startling enough—and hurriedly made his way over to him. Mindful of the fact that they were in front of his disciples, Shen Qingqiu gave a respectful salute. “Zhangmen—”
“Xiao-Jiu, will you marry me?”
The entire field fell silent.
YQY has been drugged with something nefarious! He keeps saying all kinds of nonsense that he surely doesn’t actually mean, like complimenting SQQ and saying he wants to be near him and asking to…marry him…
Well. What’s SQQ supposed to do? Not take advantage while YQY is in such an exploitable state? It’s not like it’s real, anyway; once YQY recovers, he’ll surely take it all back.

Complete
There are too many things to say about this fic. The fact that it is the most famous fanfic on the internet can somewhat encapsulate how brilliant it is, though it still doesn't feel like enough. As far as I'm concerned, this fic depicts the canon marauders era. It spares no detail, it builds depth to the world and breathes life into relationships implied in the novels.
It's a slowburn, labour of love to both Harry Potter, and growing up in the 70's/80's. The narrative can feel slow at times, since, unlike the golden trio, the marauders weren't sneaking past three-headed dogs or being forcibly entered into Tri-Wizard Tournaments in their youth. But it is rich in character and best enjoyed slowly, rather than binged. There is also an amazing Podfic by Bibliobibuli on youtube that I highly recommend.

Summary
After making it to Jin Lan City to aid his martial brothers in curing a strange plague, Shen Qingqiu stumbles his way directly into a curse of his own. The fates have chosen a life to tie to Shen Qingqiu’s own—and of course it would be tied to the early arriving protagonist! As the curse worsens, Shen Qingqiu finds that distance between him and Luo Binghe begins to freeze him slowly. Literally freeze, he is at risk for hypothermia for not being right next to the guy who probably wants to turn him into a stick!
Wait—what do you mean Shen Qingqiu will also lose the ability to lie!? That's an integral part of him not being unceremoniously sent back to the life where he’s already dead!
