Panic did settle in after a few more minutes. I mean obviously it did. Whether I kept on walking or just stood still, the corridor I was stuck in continued changing. After a while I stopped, trying to open any of the doors I mean- Sometimes it felt as if they weren’t even real. Like just stuck on wallpaper? I could open none of them. Except for one.
And that one unfortunately happened to lead to a certain warehouse.

It had been an hour, perhaps two, when the silence broke. There were no clocks here, but Nye only knew one person that would come in around that time. Always just a tad bit too late. Only one person that would make such uncaring noise while doing so.
The door, that was way too tiny for Doctor Nye to fit through, swung open and one far too ecstatic and very much so unwanted ‘assistant’ came heading in.

His revolver was empty. Skulduggery could have reloaded it, but he didn’t. The last six cartridges had found all their targets. More or less.
Right now Skulduggery didn’t feel as if he was in any serious danger, so he pushed the still empty cylinder back into it’s frame. But instead of putting his revolver away he held it casually in his left hand.
“If you were indeed planning to kill me with those shots you didn’t seem to have tried at all.”
The silence had been cut short. Skulduggery had just started enjoying it.

Even though Jon knew that the man walking besides him had no face, every time he spoke, Jon believed for the fragment of a second that he would see some kind of expression. A reaction, a raised eyebrow or a small grim. But every time he looked, the archivist only saw the solid skull. Absolutely nothing displayed on it.
