Damnit. Though she wasn't staring into his soul, he was still squeamish under her gaze. "Hey." he said awkwardly, trying to hide his plushie.
Much to his dismay, Vanessa instantly noticed the plushie hanging lamely from his hand. She blinked. "What's wrong?" she asked voice muffled from sleep.
"I, uh..." He halfheartedly considered to lie and tell her he was just gonna get a glass of water. But he was suddenly so tired. "I can't sleep."

When Gregory can't sleep, he strolls through apartment and accidently stumbles his way into a late night conversation.

The crying paused. "Evan?" Elizabeth's wobbly voice sounded. It sounded like she had been crying pretty intensely.
"What*s wrong? Why are you crying?"
I'm", she sobbed and Evan couldn't make out her words, "can you get Dad please?"
Her upset state was starting to effect him too. He put a hand on the handle. "What? Why should I get Dad? What happened?"
"I'm bleeding!"

Summary
In the dark, he felt around and recoiled at the feeling of something slimy and rotten. After a moment, he realized what it was that he’d grabbed: a hand. God, there was someone else down here. No wonder the air was thick with the scent of death. How long had they been stuck? Did anyone ever come for them? Were there others down here? Was Michael going to end up like that, too?
The rain was coming quicker now, and the water rose past his chest and up his neck. It’s been so long since he’d been well and truly scared, but the muddy water creeping up his form was a grim reminder of his fate. He doesn’t bother trying to fight it, he can’t, and so he simply closes his eyes and tries to take one last breath.
When Michael comes to, he’s fully underwater. It’s so, so cold, and his lungs are burning. He waited for the instinctive gasp of air that the human body would eventually make, but it never came. Everything was so still, and he realized that he couldn’t feel his heartbeat.
Was he…dead?

But really, deep down, William knew it was Michael. Michael, slowly realizing what had happened, let out the loudest, most blood curdling scream William would ever hear.

Maybe it would've been better if he had taken her away himself upon their first meeting instead of digging deep into the doctor's torture chamber of a facility, believing she'd escape unharmed by herself. Maybe it would've saved her a lifetime of trauma and grief. Regardless of her affiliation with the FBI, Grace was still young, inexperienced in the horrific life Leon had lived for 28 years. But God Almighty, for better or worse, she was exactly the way Leon was when this all began.
